2024 Race is Cancelled Due to Construction

As you may have seen or heard, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has recently started a big construction project inside James S. Long Park to widen the interior park roads, install a bunch of underground drainage and pave/add parking lots; it is a very much needed project for the park.

Unfortunately for us however; the location where the construction is being done is the exact spot where we start/finish and park all of our racers for this event, and there simply isn't another location in the park that can handle our event volume. We have recently been informed that due to weather and other such delays, the construction work is not going to be finished in time for our race to proceed as planned on June 21st or even our rain date of June 28th.

No one is to blame here, its just unfortunate circumstances; when we originally confirmed our event date/permit with
Prince William County Parks and Recreation, it looked like we'd be fine, but things have changed. We've been evaluating options with PWC-DPR, but its hard because VDOT cannot commit to a construction completion date (understandably so, they can't predict future weather delays) plus all the sports leagues are now kicking into full swing at the park (soccer, lacrosse, baseball, etc.). It results in just not leaving us with any acceptable replacement options without moving things all the way out into winter.

The short of it is, we've come to the decision to just cancel the race for 2024 and we'll pick things back up in 2025. By 2025 not only will the construction project be done, but also MORE volunteers have been super busy at work on the brand new 2-mile Creekside Trail in the park. The Creekside Trail wasn't gonna be done in time for our race this year but it should definitely be done and ready for the 2025 edition of the race. So in 2025 we'll be able to not only get back to racing but we'll add a completely brand new 2 miles to the course :)

The Long of IT

2-hour 'Enduro'
As many Laps as You Can Fit in 2 hours

Start your Summer weekend riding some of the newest trails in Northern Virginia at James S. Long Park in Haymarket Virginia. MORE (Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts) volunteers have just finished adding a 1.5 mile stretch of trails to Long Park giving it a great little 4-mile loop and we couldn't think of a better way to start a Summer weekend than with a big group ride.

The MORE trail liaisons for Long Park have plans to add 2 more miles of trails and add some bike features in the near future which will require some fundraising so let's all pitch in. Come have fun racing while helping us raise money for future improvements to the trails.

We are putting on 2 races on a Friday evening to get your Summer weekend started. We'll have a 1-lap race and a 2-hour Enduro race where riders try to get in as many laps as they can/want within a 2-hour time limit.

The proceeds from this race will be donated 100% to the James Long Park fund within MORE. James S.
