We saved the most challenging course for last. Whitney State Forest, quietly hidden away in Warrenton, Va, secretly has some of the most fun trails to run. At 148 acres of timber conservation, it also contains 5+ miles of wooded trails among the rolling hills and multiple streams/forks created off Great Run.
Our race course is entirely on the natural trails of of Whitney with 300+ feet of elevation changes and 5+ stream crossings, some that may even require you to get your feet wet, this course is definitely designed for the adventurer within you. The course is not just streams, it also takes you through a variety of native trees, including tulip poplars, oaks, hickories, maples and Virginia pines, primarily deciduous, meaning it all makes a beautiful spectacle come fall when the leaves change colors, this is not a race to skip out on.
This course also includes some easily accessible spectator areas for family and friends to cheer on their racers. This is the one race in our series that does NOT include a 1-mile fun run.
Parking is very tight at Whitney so we highly recommend carpooling if possible.
